Travel tips for Lima Lima. City of Kings or City of Criminals? Garden City or City without Gardens? Why don't you find out yourself what's the truth about Lima. Walk in the historical city center with its churches, monastaries and mansions, the reopened Park of Lima, markets, etc. Visit the more modern center of Miraflores and it's Larcomar mall with ocean views. See the old beach resort of Barranco or the ancient ruins of Pachacamac. Meet Peruvians and you'll find out how helpful and friendly they are. Of course, be warned Lima is not a quiet city; theft can be a problem. But where isn't it in South America? So be prepared. Don't let them make you afraid because you'll miss a place where 8 million people live; a metropolitan, historical, lively city on the move .. Taxi drivers at Lima airport are receiving commissions from several hotels and hostels if they bring extra people. They'll try to persuade you to go to Miraflores (expensive hotels, food etc.) telling you all kinds of stories. Don't believe them. We are not closed nor burned out etc. Do not let them make you change your mind. Don't pay more then US$ 10 for a taxi to the city centre. Check the address and name of the hotel of your choice on arrival before paying the taxi. Check yourself for room availability; fake calls have been reported.
